ECS200: Volunteering
Volunteered in Regina public Library and Regina Food Bank
In ECS200, I went to Regina Public Library Glen Elm Branch and the Regina Food Bank. I was one of a homework tutors in the Glen Elm branch. We helped children from grade 5 to 12 with their homework. We checked their spelling, calculation and so forth; We have had a good time there and I was pretty enjoyed. Another one is the Regina Food Bank; I have never heard Regina Food Bank before because we do not have it in China. This community is excellent! It not only help people fight hunger, but also save foods and resources. We volunteers helped sort, bag food there; we also checked the "Best Before Date" to make sure the food security. I felt I was pretty engaged and I was doing some good for people and society. However, at the same time I also realized that we still have much people suffer poverty and could not even full fill their stomach. Just think about that, how could students come to class with an empty stomach? Besides, poverty could as well bring so many serious issues to families and children. It is truly a challenge toward education. Those were excellent experiences and I have learned much from them. After that, we had a presentation and shared our journeys and stories to our peers. I have my slides below:
